How it works

How BeThere works

BeThere is a free live fantasy sports app: you join one real game, draft players from it, and answer live Challenges until the final out or whistle. Here’s each step, and the rules that decide your score.

  • One real gameDraft from the two teams playing, then call it live.
  • Free to playNo entry fee and nothing to buy in the app.
  • No real moneyPlay for points. Nothing to deposit, stake or cash out.

1. Join a game

The Discover tab lists the games you can join for each sport: anything in progress, plus games starting over roughly the next week, grouped by day. Live games sit at the top of each day.

  • One game at a time. You can join your next game once your current one has finished and you’ve checked your result.
  • Join any time before the end. Games that are already under way are open to join. See joining late.
  • Leaving deletes your entry. If you leave a game before it’s over, your roster, Challenges and points for that game are erased.

2. Draft your roster

Your roster comes first. Until you’ve confirmed one, the game tab is the draft: no scoreboard, no plays, no Challenges. Confirm it and you land straight on the game.

Every player has a price set before the game from his season-long performance: stars cost the most, role players the least. You can take players from either team.

Swaps. Before the game starts, you can add, drop and swap players for free. Once it’s live you can still swap as often as you like. The only cost is a switchout penalty: a player you add mid-game only counts the points he scores after he joins your roster. The app shows the penalty in red before you confirm.

Joining late. If you confirm your roster after the game has started, the same rule applies to every player on it: each one starts at zero for you, so you earn only from that moment on. The app previews this late-join penalty, player by player, before you confirm.

3. Answer Challenges

Challenges are made automatically from what happens in the game. Each one is a single question with fixed answers: over or under a number, yes or no, one team or the other, or how a football drive ends. Tap an answer and it locks. One answer per Challenge, no edits, no cancels, never both sides. Answering costs nothing.

They reach you two ways.

Sets you lock in

Before the game (and, in football, again at halftime) a set of Challenges lands in the Challenges tab under Place Challenges, grouped into categories: one per stat in baseball, one per roster slot for football’s first half, and one per team stat for its second half. Choose one Challenge in each category, then tap Lock to place them all at once. Nothing counts until Lock goes through, and Lock tells you what you’ve missed.

Pop-ups in the moment

Others pop up on the game screen as things happen: a baseball at-bat, a bases-loaded jam, a new football drive. Answering one places it right away. They come one at a time, and each has a short real-time window: 30 seconds for a Big Moment, 45 seconds for a baseball at-bat, three minutes for a football drive. Ignore one and it simply expires. That costs you nothing.

The Who Will Win? Challenge can’t be swiped away. Answer it and the app takes you to the matching set in Place Challenges.

4. What a Challenge is worth

Every Challenge starts from the same base: 20 points . What you can win is fixed the moment you answer, so nothing that happens later changes it.

  • Earlier is worth more. Most Challenges lose value the longer you wait. The first tenth of the window pays full value, then it falls toward a floor of 1 point. That’s why “Who Will Win?” is worth 20 before the game and close to nothing by the late innings or the fourth quarter. (Baseball measures this in outs, football on the game clock.)
  • Long shots pay more. Quick pop-ups don’t lose value. Instead, the less likely answer carries a multiplier, shown as ×2, ×2.5, ×5 and so on, and a win is multiplied by it. The safe side pays the flat 20.
  • Football drives are the exception. A drive card is worth full value for its first minute, then drops: on a base of 20 that’s 16 at 75 seconds, 14 at 90, 10 at two minutes, 7 at 150 seconds and 5 at the three-minute close.
  • No stake, ever. A right answer adds points. A wrong answer adds nothing and takes nothing away.

5. How Challenges settle

About every 30 seconds, BeThere checks open Challenges against the live play-by-play. When one resolves, the card flips to the result, the points land immediately, and winners get a push notification. A settled result is final: a later stat correction never re-grades it.

If the game can’t answer the question (the data feed reports an outcome nobody can read, or the play the card was about turns out not to be the play that happened), the Challenge is voided. A void isn’t a win or a loss. It’s erased, and it doesn’t count against your win rate. BeThere voids rather than guesses.

When the game ends, BeThere waits until the final play-by-play is confirmed complete before it settles the last Challenges and locks the standings, so the result is graded on the full box score.

6. Your score

Score = player fantasy points + Challenge winnings − late-join and switchout penalties

  • It never goes below zero, and no player can score negative points: every stat category is worth zero or more.
  • Fantasy points update live as stats come in, and follow stat corrections, so a player’s total can occasionally move down.
  • Scoring tables: MLB, college football.

7. Leaderboard, tiers and tickets

Everyone in the game is ranked on one live leaderboard by total points. Tied players share a rank.

1fourdowns342Tier 4
2bleachers_22318Tier 4
2You318Tier 4
4sixtwo_lefty251Tier 3
5section112197Tier 2
  • Point tiers. Each game has a ladder of tiers, by default ten of them, about 100 points apart. Crossing into a new one sends a “New Tier!” notification.
  • Raffle tickets. When the game is final, you check your result and collect raffle tickets. Everyone gets at least one, and a higher tier earns more.
  • Prizes. Spend tickets in the Rewards tab to enter giveaways. Each ticket is one entry, and winners are drawn at random from all entries. See the prize rules, or how a business can sponsor a giveaway.
  • Achievements. Games played, games won, stadiums visited and your Challenge win rate all count toward milestones in the app.
